tidy engine bay

New member
I have recently purchased a 1988 Porsche 911 SC and want to tidy the engine bay and also convert it to individual throttle bodies (ITBs).
I have attached 2 pictures, one of which shows a standard interior and another that has been modified.
Can any members explain the function of the "black boxes" on the left of the engine bay and can they be safely and easily removed?
Sorry if I sound ignorant but I am very new to Porsche ownership.

Also, has anyone recently converted to ITBs?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Regards

Plenty of info on www.impactbumpers.com
