Time to top up your battery fluid!

The OEM Moll battery gets a bad reputation for its lack of longevity. I found with my previous 996 that as long as I topped up the fluid once a year and kept it trickle charged it will last as long as any other (7+ years and still going)

It's a 10 minute procedure. Use gloves, remove the panel covering the battery, unscrew the 6 plastic screws covering the cells, and top up with deionised water (available from petrol stations/supermarkets/Halfords etc) until the water is just below the lugs (seen in the bottom of the middle cell in the picture attached).

I agree completely. So far never had one fail although the longest I have owned any car for is 6 years.

Thanks I'll check this out - 4 1/2 years from factory battery and no problems ( kept on trickle charge) but never checked levels - will now!

I suspect they may check it during the service......[:)]
Hmm. After the first (20k) service on my Gen 2 Cayman S the original sticky seals were still over the screw-in cell caps (like in the pic). The service advisor gave me some bollxxks about the technician "shining a light through the battery to check the individual cell levels". When I asked him to show me how they did that with the battery in position they agreed it wasn't possible. So after that I regularly checked them myself and topped up as required, which wasn't much.

I had the same thing with my Mercedes. I was told, after I had checked the levels myself and found them to be low, "We shake the battery and feel the liquid movement."
Wow, did I feel silly telling them that I had actually opened the top of the battery.
They must have thought that I was from the dark ages doing that check.
Silly me.??

Trickle charging is the secret to long battery life, I reckon.

That's two stories about dealerships feeding porkies to customers. I wonder do they just not know and bluff their way, or do they know the right way of things, expect a customer not to know and take advantage.... Whatever way it is, there is room for improvement WRT honesty.
