Timing Belts

Just been rooting though my cars maintenance history as it's going in for a service tomorrow. When I bought my car at 100k miles the previous owner said he had the timing belt changed at aroud 95k miles. The trouble is I cannot find the receipt for that work. The last recorded timing belt change was as at just over 80k miles back in 1998 2 owners ago. I've no reason to mistrust the guy I bought the car from since he looked after the car impeccably and there are the receipts to prove it but it is bothering me that I cannot find proof of the 95k mile timing belt change. So what are the rules about timing belts? Is it every 60k miles or every 40k miles and is there a time limit as at best the belt was changed around 15k miles ago in 1991/1992 and at worse it was 30k miles ago back in 1998?

It then begs the question that if I decide to get the timing belt done sooner rather than later should I go for the head gasket as well because judging by the number of head gaskets that have gone over the past 12 months mine must be in the twilight of its usefull life (and especially since i'm planning a trip to the ring).

In the past 7 years my car has only covered 30k miles - poor neglected thing, once I get my confidence back on the timing belt I shall have to ride her twice as hard!
