Timing strut

Anyone know where to get a timing strut from or made that can bolt in the tow eye socket and is MSA blue book compliant for standing quarter tests at Brighton Speed trials in Sept please?

I think most folk just knock one up out of a bit of aluminium! Never seen one screwed into the tow eye though - usual stuck on with some tape! I guess you could bet a couple of small u brackets and attach something like this

to your tow eye. Of course the "eye" would need to be vertical when tight - I'm not sure you can be certain of that. Know anyone handy with a bit of simple metalwork?
Event sounds like fun [;)]

Hi David,

The neatest way of fixing a timing strut is to get a piece of ally folded as per the photo below

This hooks over the top of your number plate and can be attached to the face of the plate by velcro or double sided tape.
The beam-breaking surface should have a total area of not less than 254mm by 51mm and the bottom should be between 180mm and 200mm from the ground. Make a template out of cornflake box first to confirm the correct height. [:)] The strut needs to be painted matt black on both sides.

If you take my tip, it should be fabricated in very light gauge ally sheet, as if you do hit something, [:(] it'll be the strut that folds and not your car. [;)]

The event regulations require the ignition switch to be clearly marked with the "Off" position for the benefit of marshalls, but this can simply be achieved with masking tape and a pen. [8|]

Clive

I use a 4-5mm thick piece of rigid plastic bolted vertically to my towing eye

Now you've got the pattern and measurements, you can pay someone to make you one.[8|]

Regards,

Clive.
