Tip on a Track day

I will soon be purchasing my 996 TT. Still haven't decided between a tip or manual.
My question is to the tiptronic owners. How do they do on the track as I'm an occasional track driver?

Cheers

My understanding is that they're fine. Changing gear is easier and you can't mess it up.
You can't over-rev the engine by shifting down too early either.
In theory they should be slightly slower, but driver ability is a much bigger deciding factor.

The only bit I am not sure about is what happens if you spin.
In a manual you need to dip the clutch to avoid running the engine backwards (something that is not covered under the warranty, btw).
I guess the tiptronic looks after this for you, since there is no quick way to put it into neutral.

Thanks for that Stuart. I still haven't made my mind up yet. Just enjoying the test drives at the moment.

Have tried the tiptronic but it was in central London and the traffic was bad so didn't really get a chance to see it work properly.

Cheers

At least as much as the X50 cars make, which is 450bhp and 620Nm of torque.
I don't think they get upgraded for that.

Manuals use a derivative of the 993GT2 box, so I reckon it'll take a lot more. However, the more you do, the faster it'll wear.
Tiptronic uses a Merc box I believe. I don't know what the rating on that is. (Some Merc boxes will go up to 1000Nm).

It is not the power but the torque that will break it.

Mine is takeing over 700nM without any probs - have tracked it also without any problems, possible actually slightly faster lap times for the occasional user
