TIP OR MAN

Hi I am thinking of changing my 993 C4 manual for a 996 turbo.
I have test driven a 996 turbo with Tip and was really pleased.
I sometimes do a track day or a sprint circuit, will I be dissapointed with the tip.
How does the engine breaking work on change down etc. I could not really try it on the road on the test drive.
I know I have to make my own mind up, but yout thoughts and experiances would be appreiciated.

i was taken round bedford with a tip and while obviosly not involving as the manual changing down before turn in and engine breaking was not a problem and we certainly kept up with the manuals[:D]

If you like your 993 look at a 993 turbo and they dont depreciate anywhere near as much(if anything) like the 996 Turbo does

In my opinion the tip is not for a sports car and is pointless on track - its not to do with who you keep up with its the satisfaction of using that great gearbox with the brakes and steering for the overall experience of getting a car round a track. You will definitely be disappointed with a tip on track.

Steven,
IMO I think you'll be happier with manual transmission, otherwise you'll miss the 6th. gear for sporty motoring and the turbo's engine is so torquey that manual in traffic is really no problem either. Both are fabulous though!
Good luck [;)]

Just did the Silverstone GP circuit with my Tip. It was a lot of fun on track and you can use engine braking (although I drove it in manual all the time it would have jumped to its most agressive shift pattern if I had left it in Auto)., The box is very efficient and you do not lose a lot of performance - also you can keep both hands on the wheel when it really takes off!

I still think it would be more involving as a manual though...

Whilst I would be the first to defend the auto/Tip/geartronic versions of most vehicles, as out of choice that what I would pick in the new options list, BUT not with a 911, my last was tip, and while I had not problems etc, I sold it, to buy another manual. the whole balance of the car suits the man better [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [:)]
