Tiptoe

Just a question I often ponder, years ago many sportomatics were converted to manual, would a tiptronic be difficult to make manual. I realise the Gearbox would need to be changed.
I am of the opinion that used tip's are generally in nicer condition than equivalent manuals.
BTW, I like sporto better than tip personally - there was an ST sporto competition car[8D]

George,

I think the perceived wisdom is - don't bother. Apart from the obvious gearbox change, there is the issue of the pedal box, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch/flywheel internals, the hydraulic pipework plus differences in the ECU and other electronics. The gearchange mechanism is also different and, down to picky level, the rev counter is different although I guess you could live with that. All in all it's a lots of expense and time to render a car worth less than it was before. Admittedly, Tips are often not best loved in resale terms, but one which has been converted to manual is probably worth less still.

Regards

Dave.

Dave, thanks - quite a number of differences which is probably why I have never heard of one. 'Bit like Left to Right hand drive, a lot of in depth work, requiring expensive hard to identify and locate components.
I wonder will it become viable in 10 years or so when 964's become more rare/valuable and there is another recreation/ replica fad?
