Hi, All
My gearbox switched to emergency mode earlier today: the dashboard light on and top gear only. It began working properly again after switching off and re-starting the engine.
I was advised by a seasoned mechanic friend of mine that I should change the fluid in the box before attempting any type of diagnostic as dirty fluid is the cause of the vast majority of auto box problems.
Just how easy a job is this? Is it just a case of draining the old stuff out and putting the new in, or is there any trick? Also, it is a reasonable job to do without a lift or pit - i.e. with the car on axle stands?
Regards
Alistair
