Tiptronic Gearstick Button Removal

On the Porscheshop stand on Saturday I saw a natty aluminium button with Porsche crest that would look rather nice on the top of my gearstick, in place of the current black plastic thing. The aluminium one has a thread in the bottom, but I can't seem to unscrew the existing one!

So - before I try anything daft, can someone please tell me how to get the current black plastic button out?

Thanks.

Hi,

The black plastic ones are usually glued in place at least mine was when i replaced the new leather gaitor i had to prize it off with a putty knife, but be careful and good luck?

Best take it out of the car first, if you lift the gaitor away from the dash tunnel you should find a circlip and it will all come away very easily?

Well, I've just had a tug at the gear knob and a spin of the button, nothing moved - and I don't fancy trying to lift the plastic surround with the selector slot. Looks like I'm staying with the black plastic button! At least I did better with the slip-over chrome exhaust tip (supposedly for a 944 but fits nicely!) so the back end of my 968 now looks a lot better!

Thanks anyway!
