Tiptronic or manual?

I've heard so many mixed comments on the Tiptronic box, but is it really as undesirable as it seems to be? Does it really diminish the 911 / 996 driving experience, bearing in mind that my intended usage is the real world and not the ragged edge round the Nurburgring?

I thought the same prior to finding a mint example with what I thought was the only downside, a Titptronic box... The box is great, I really enjoy it, it's my first auto, been driving manuals for nearly 10 years and don't miss them at all. I do tend to drive mine in manual 95% of the time even though I use it for communiting and business etc. Test drive one, unless your a hardcore driver, you should be happy with it.

Apart from exhausts and tyres, this is probably one of the most debated subjects, with opinions of all sorts. My views are well known (also note my signature!) but there was a thread on 911UK recently which stretched to 3 pages without a bad word said against Tips! [link=http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=45986]http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=45986[/link] I understand completely why some people wouldn't want a Tiptronic in preference to a manual, and if my car was a weekend toy I would probably choose that option. What makes me smile is the die-hard manual users who go all ga-ga about PDK, which is just another (albeit better) form of switchable automatic. Drive both, and choose what you like.

Tiptronic is really nice, I had tip cars for 4 years and had no complaints, lovely in manual mode. If that's what you want then don't let anybody tell you what you're supposed to be driving.
