Hi guys and girls I've been thinking of getting my tiptronic gearbox serviced as it's nearly due , but wanted to know if anyone has had it done and if there was any issues?? My car is a 996 c2 2003 , the gearbox is currently fine with no issues to date !! Any feedback would be great ??

Hi there.

I have a 2003 C2 Targa Tip with around 90k on the clock. I asked Porsche Brooklands to change the gearbox oil at its last service back in June.

Very reasonably priced and no issues whatsoever. Whoever you choose to do it just make sure they know how to change the gearbox oil on a tiptronic.

Hi ??how much did brooklands charge ?? If you don't mind me asking, I had my mot done this morning at Porsche centre portsmouth and they quoted me £545 , not sure if that's good or bad but at least I would assume they know how to do it !!!

£545 sounds pretty astronomic, it's not a complex task.
I've had ours done a couple of times and it was nowhere near that.

First change was at about 60k miles and the change improved for some reason.

I can't remember how much the gearbox service/oil change was but I recall it being much less than that!! Give Brooklands a call - the service manager is Tim Munford who is very helpful. They also do a parts and labour discount for PCGB members.

Thanks for your feedback , i thought it was rather expensive myself to be honest but wasn't quite sure , I'll give brooklands a call and get a price ????

I paid £288 just for the oil and filter (with VAT). Porsche Tiptronic oil is £20 a litre and you need nine of them. The filter is £51. So your OCP quotation doesn't seem outrageous although no doubt higher than an indy would charge.

Book time is 1.6 hours, including ATF and diff oil change.

Although the ATF capacity for a 2003 996 (MB box) is 9 litres, only 4.5 is needed for a fluid change. That's all you can drain, as a lot remains in the torque converter which doesn't drain.

That's good to know. I was charged for 9 litres but the torque converter was removed so presumably drained. I need to check now.
