Tiptronic to Manual - but which manual?

After driving my first Porsche - a 993 Targa Tiptronic - for 18mths or so now, I'm beginning to miss the feel of a manual car. Living in central London means most of the driving I do actually lends itself to an automatic gearbox - but for the 10% of time I spend in the car on more open roads or on the track, I miss the manual and fancy an upgrade. But the question is, which manual to go for? Ideas so far include: 993 Turbo (incredible looks and performance, but at a price), 997 2S (great modern car, but losing some of the 993 "Porcheness" perhaps?), 996 Turbo (great value performance - but not such a looker), or should I just stick with the 993 Targa (best all-rounder*) and find a manual version?

Would be interested to hear anyone's opinion on the matter - especially if you're a tiptronic-manual convert (or vice-versa). What did you move from/to, and what were you surprised to find?

Cheers,

John

* As for the Targa being the best all-rounder - I'll tell you about how I managed to fit over 24 sq meters of wooden flooring, and underlay, and the wife all in there some other time...
