Why is it when I see this kind of thing:

heart starts overcoming head and engineering ability (nil) and I start thinking of going to have a look...
My neighbour has said that fitting a gearbox is a specialist job and not one I'd manage at home (even if I knew what I was doing which I don't). The seats and interior tidying I'd have a go at but with the price of a secondhand clutch gearbox (best price of two is 575+VAT+del so far) plus what? £300 labour to get it fitted, it rapidly becomes an uneconomic argument I think. Not to mention the fact that there may be other hidden damage. Pity it'll probably be broken (although what for I'm not sure: the engine has 135,000 miles on it), it would make a nice runabout/track car.
Comments and other abuse along the lines of 'you're a dreamer' welcome
