To PSM or Not?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at a non-PSM Boxster S... So what are your thoughts on whether a Boxster S should have PSM or not?

From what i read above 50 and PSM is off, below 50 and it kicks in as a life saver if you get too cocky? I know it depends on driving style, but other sports cars i have owned have not had any form of stability management anyhow....

Is it a must, and can it be installed as an upgrade on second handers if required? (any ideas where and cost)

Thanks

Personally, I would strongly recommend having it as you only need it to work once and it will save you an expensive bill or worse. It has saved me some embarrassment on roundabouts with cold, damp roads although you cannot totally defy the laws of physics, even with PSM. When I was choosing the specification of my car, it was the first "must have" I put on the list.

Happy driving!

Not got it on mine. The boxster is so communicative that it will tell you when it's reaching its limits. As you say, if you don't get 'cocky' (not that you should on a public road anyway) you'll be fine. Especially since you've got experience with other cars that don't have TC.

Thanks for your opinions.

I guess from my point of view, the older ones never had it, I have owned other sports cars that haven't had it and if i want to be crazy i can go on a track. That being said i think there are probably other things within a cars setup that will help driving... i.e. the right tyres for the right weather.

I'll have a dig around in some other posts as i am sure winter tyres has been covered recently enough with this weather!

If you intend using the car year round, as a daily driver, then its probably worth looking for one with PSM - if only for the peace of mind on a frosty morning/black ice/diesel spillage. It won't help you an awful lot in snow, but then a full set of winter tyres will.

I never hd it on my old 986 2.7, have it on the 987S but its only even activated in 4 inches of snow, and then it wasn't much use.
