To Sell or Not To Sell

Having a bit of indecision at the moment as to whether I should sell my car or not.........have only had it for 10 months and am thinking of selling it in June (after LM) as it should be the height of summer and I'll have then had (and thoroughly enjoyed) for a year.

It was my dream car (997 TT Cab fully loaded in white [:)]) when I got it and I guess it still is.......but I find myself not having used it as much (only 6K miles so far) as I should/would like to and finding it increasingly difficult to use it properly due to other numpties on the road (and I'm not a trackday person).....and thinking I should sell up (for very little depreciation) and be sensible and pay off more than half my remaining mortgage.......but that's sounds waaay too sensible....

Am I mad ? Help convince me either way!

The timings sound perfect....
I'd see how you feel after LM and you've had a chance to see what the car is actually about..
I took my cab to Lenmans and it made for an amazing trip

I took my old C2 Cab (996) a couple of years ag oand that was great...

Have another Euro trip a couple of weeks before so will have got to drie the car nicely on the continent, and then it may be time to be a bit sensible.......

Sounds sensible but - wait until you get actual quotes for the car to buy it rather than indicative values, it may well give you a bigger depreciate hit for a year than you thought. Of course it could also go the other way as well.

If its your dream car, what will you do without it? and will you kick yourself every time you see a 911 go by?

One of the other ways of enjoying your car is to become an active member of this and other clubs - taking part in some of the trips/ woty's etc where you get a better chance to enjoy your and others car with like minded people and maybe try a couple of novice or taster track days just to see if its your thing.

If its a good deal and you can sell without regrets, it seems a cunning plan BUT if you think you will regret selling, you should really think about keeping it and finding new ways /incentives to use it. Thee cars were meant to be driven.[:D]

Mmm, some interesting thoughts....looking at the prices these are up for now and being realistic about how much less they will actually be selling for I'm pretty comfortable on the price I'd achieve, the only caveat being who knows what could happen to the market in a couple of months esp with petrol prices heading the way they are.

It's entirely possible I will regret selling it when I see another 911 go past but then again I'll have muchless debt which will give a different satisfaction and could always get back into a 996 relatively cheaply in compairson. Would definitely get another convertible just not sure what and it would one significantly cheaper.

I am a huge member of another 911 site (and have been for 4 years now) so have used this car (only a couple of times) but other cars for 'Ring trips, LM, a few trackdays,m various meets etc....(unfortunately I found my region here very rude and condescending when I got my first 911) and I also have a wide group of freinds who all have (or have had 911's) so am not missing out on that side........

I'm still verging on the side of selling at the moment.

HI UU361

I did exactly that!! I bought my dream car a 911s with pdk fully loaded and found i wasnt using it as much as i would like. So i decided to part company with it and pay off my mortgage. Doing this felt great to be honest to be free of the bank sharks!! BUT after a month and the first time i saw another 911 on the road the desire to have another one was unbearable!!!!!! Ive been Porscheless for 10 months now [:(] I waited 30 years to own my first Porsche and it truly is my dream car. I have never driven anything that compares to it (within budget) So im off next month with a bit of luck to order another one [;)] as soon as its done i'll be sure to post my precious on here!!!!!

agreed!!
it is a serious addiction[:D]

i have been porscheless for 4 months and will remain so for probably another 12 or so before the first three kids finish uni courses.-when the 997TT will be winging its way in double quick time!!

Mmmm, a tricky decision.......think I will test the market come June and as I'm not desperate to sell not a problem either way.......I could get back into a 996 TT Cab for less than half or just have something else, maybe a Boxster S or something really cheap but convertible which would then make me appreciate the next Porsche that much more......

uuf361,

When I am reading your post, this is very similar to what I felt few years ago.
I bought a car of my dreams and found out I was afraid to drive it, I was afraid to park it, I was afraid to leave it alone when I travelled with it to other places... It was ridiculous but I could not help...
What I did? I sold it and... I bought the new dream - the one I drive now, but in between I did a kind of psychological training to myself.... I said to myself: this is your only car - enjoy it! Aftreall THIS IS JUST A CAR!!! You know what - it helped!
Of course I am still looking where and how I park my car, but in first 6 months I made 6 K miles and only because my job requires a lot of travelling, otherwise I am sure I would made it double...

Hi
If you are in a position to pay off some of your Mortgage, sell it! I love cars, always have. Have had Porsches since 1987 and love them but am lucky enough to be able to finance them through my Company but if I had to make a choice between my Dream Car or paying off my Mortgage, there is no contest........Pay off the mortgage! Cars can be bought anytime!!

Thanks for the thoughts guys.......unfortunately I'm young enough that selling the turbo will not pay off the mortgage only half of it, but that in itself would be a good feeling........

Understand the not using issue.

If its not making you happy because you can never take it anywhere then sell and get something that you can use and enjoy more.
