On the 997 is there a powersocket in the passenger footwell as try as I can I can't find it ?!

Also without deciphering the manual is there a way of setting the car so that when the car is locked and alarmed one can get a beep to go with the 2 flashes of the indicators.

Thanks in advance.

Only on certain models I believe ( cab ? ) which may explain why you cant find it ?

There isnt one in my C2S

If it's the same as the 987, only the first cars had it as standard.
You only get it now if you have the PCM system or something? (I forget what!)

To get the beep when you lock your car is quite simple, just leave the centre console open....

My point is that the beep indicates that the car is NOT secure or something has been left open, I could see it getting very confusing if a beep meant that it was locked...[&:]

In the brochure it read Twin 12V sockets (including the cigar lighter) provide power for electrical equipment...
The second one is located IN the centre console under the lid.

Mine has one and it isn't hidden, so if you can't find it, it probably isn't there?

Lawrence is right. Only on 2005 MY (indicated by a 5 in the chassis plate (see front windscreen below tax disc) so WPOZZZ99Z5S......). Was allegedly then fitted to later cars only with Bose and Nav and Phone, but I can't be sure on that last bit.

There's no Porsche option to beep as well as flash to confirm lock - as Gary says the opposite is true, only beeps when not locked properly. An aftermarket company who produce the SmartTop produce a module where you can reconfigure this for an investment cÂŁ400, but this obviously doesn't help with the warranty side of things...

Where exactly is it in the passenger footwell ?

Taken from a US handbook - so LHD layout. However, now discontinued.

I have a socket on the right of the passenger footwell at about half shin height (on an 05 cab with Bose and Nav but no phone)

My now departed 997 2S - Mar 05 had the aux power oulet under the dash, rhs in the passenger side. The Turbo doesn't - there's progress for you - suppose it says on weight!

re: beep

I have had my car beep (2 beeps in successsion) at me a few times (noise seems to come from within front bumper) when unlocking/entering vehicle but I am at a loss to know what it means - on a couple of occasions it seems to be associated with opening/closing the bonnet but another time only the passenger door had been opened/closed. I have driven off with no further tell-tail lights or INFO on computer.

I can not find any reference to beeps in the user manual but wouldn't be surprised if I have missed it???

Any insight/direction would be greatly appreciated as to what this beeping is about.

From the manual ( [;)] )
Fault indication
A double
[font=porschenewsgothic,bold]horn signal [FONT=verdana,geneva"]during locking indicates a
defect in the central locking or alarm system.
Have the defect remedied at an authorized
Porsche dealer.

Sorry but I probably should have been clearer: the "beep" is not the horn - it is a high pitched noise (rather like that from motorcycle alarm movement sensors). The beep is occuring when the vehicle is unlocked, for example: got out of car, opened boot, shut it, got back in car, shut door, turned ignition on and car beeped twice.

FYI - as per manual the horn does hoot if I leave the bonnet open and lock the vehicle.

Back to the OPC ?

Not heard the beep when unlocking the car, however the beep described is the same as mine makes when a glove box is open,
They no longer sound the cars horn but more like an alarm horn/beep.

Thanks Gary

I retract my statement about the horn hooting if I leave the glove box open - on re-checking the noise is indeed the one and same beep which does beg question as to a fault although the car has always been unlocked when the 2 beeps have occured, i.e. is not in synch. with Mark's copy from the manual.

There may be something sticking: after closing the driver's door the window sometimes takes ~10s before it lifts up - this is intermittent as is the 2 beeps.

Will revert if I ever find out...

OPC technician confirmed that the signal (2 beeps) indicates a fault irrespective of whether "during locking" or otherwise, i.e. user manual not clear.

Taking vehicle in for diagnosis shortly which I am advised in conjunction with the aforementioned "sticking" window may require a few days at the garage.
