Post 1

A friend of mine (not a PCGB member) has had mice damage his wiring loom in the engine bay, causing all sorts of warning lights to come on. Garage (not OPC) is initially saying that a new loom is needed. The car is a 987 Boxster 2.7

My question ... is the wiring loom in sections? or does replacement mean replacing the whole thing from front to back?

Any other advice welcome.

Thanks

The engine loom is available separately. About £930 inc Vat. It is model-specific, so you need to take care when ordering

I seem to recall that you had a talk last year from John Day of the MG car club. I'm not sure if John mentioned his MGA called Ratty, named because a certain rodent had completely destroyed the car, including wiring loom, interior and many other parts.

Couple of thoughts
Friend of mine had same issue with a new Beetle, parked in street centre of Rugby(outside house , not used for a week or so). Rat got in between bulkhead and seperate engine bulkhead and made nest using parts of wiring loom. VW fix proposed was strip out and replace entire loom. Local auto electrician stripped apart in place and replaced section, a lot cheaper than VW
My experience some years ago had mice in my garage, took dry dog food from sack and built nest in intake system of my SC. No damage just clean out and put up with fumes for a couple of trips. Now do not store any food in garage and have fitted electric rodent repelar, just plug into mains socket. I leave on all year and (touch wood) have had no trouble for past 6 years

Six years free of damage is not guarantee that you wont have an attack[;)]

Gary Sorrell (from the PC Cambridge) was our guest speaker at Club night and he indeed confirmed that they see approx six cars every winter at the Camrbidge Centre as a result of rodent damage to interiors and wiring.

Just set a trap and you will see one in a few days Im sure - favourite bait - they seem to have gone off cheese. Chocolate spread or Peanut butter.
