Tom Tom One - is it loud enough?

Thinking of changing my ancient old Navman sat nav for a Tom Tom One Europe.

Does anyone here have experience of it?
My main concern is the lack of an audio-out jack, meaning I would be reliant on the built in speaker.

Is it loud enough?

I'm worried that the occasional Autobahn trip with top-down might mean the combined wind noise/radio is too loud to hear the Sat Nav? (Of course the answer might be that it's inaudiable at 70MPH - in which case I need a different solution [&o])

Any thoughts? [:)]

I have an indago, brilliant a bit more expensive but well worth it. Also has camera upgrade etc.

Moving post to chit chat forum this is non Boxster related :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I recently upgraded to the Tom Tom 910 after my old TT700 got nicked. Not sure about the TTOne, but the TT910 has an unbelievably loud speaker compared to the TT700. TT910 also has jacks for mics and output. If you're going to go for a TTOneEu, I would recommend spending a bit more on the TT910 as it has superior mapping (TT910 uses TeleAtlas, not NavTeq as used by the other TTs) and it has a CPU running at 400mhz, not 200mhz. Very pleased so far with the TT910 and think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

Got mine off eBay for £245 brand new, sealed box.

Understand about the 910 Adrien - that's an alternative.

I'd prefer the Europe for a few reasons.
Smaller, flatter unit that will fit better in my car ( I don't like the screen mounts and have a way of fitting to a removable bracket slid under the instrument binnacle) I understand the 910 has to use the screen dock as it takes it's power from there.
I don't really want a hard disk based unit - but I guess it seems to have survived your GT3 shaking yours about...!

However, as you say the 910 has an Audio out - and that may be essential to plug in to some sort of amplified device in order to hear it at 150 Top-down [&:]

The One Europe is £172 from Amazon at the moment [8D] - there's a new one on the way so I guess prices are going to drop.

Hopefully you'll be wanting to go "straight ahead" when at 150... [:D]

Seriously, I never had any problems with the HD in the TT700 in over 15k miles of vibrating [;)] in the GT3. There is an alternative bracket available for the TT910 that allows you to mount it somewhere apart from the usual window cradle (ie, the dash). The 910 has 12gb of free hd space so you can also store MP3s, photos etc. Has output into your stereo if you want it to. Bluetooth phone functionality works really well too. I find the extended POIs very useful when touring too.

Ive the 510 TT Mark, the speaker inbuilt is very loud so id IMO say it will be fine, not tested roof down as i dont have mine anymore, cant see it being a problem though, PGPSworld POIs are good for the cams too
I got the euro maps but not opened them yet
see http://www.satnavpricebuster.co.uk/index.html

Plenty loud enough Mark -to be honest, you don't need audio and I often turn him/her off!!

Best thing about the 710 is the live traffic updates.....covers all of Europe too

I've got a 510 and it's fine plenty loud enough for me.

I've just checked on ebay and this ends in an hour and maybe a better price than Amazon? Worth a punt check Item number: 160095382698

Even my aged iPaQ pda can just about cope with the roof down at slightly above 70mph [;)] and thats on a brodit clip down by the handbrake - the TTOne by using the windscreen mount is more direct in sound direction and therefore better still.

PS forget the Brodit mount for the 986 if using the TTOne - the moutning obscures the power socket in the centre console, so you can't power anything from it with the TTOne in the mount.

You aren't having a lot of luck with your original question, are you? I have one of the original TomTom Ones - slightly thicker than the new ones. The volume increases with speed, and I find it is plenty loud enough - in my 996 coupe (so no help there, then!) I recently had a new Pioneer satnav system fitted, so if you are anywhere near me, you are welcome to borrow the One for a couple of days if you wnt to give it a try.

Mark,

I'm concerned you want to hear the TomTom top down at 150mph. Surely you don't need to hear "straight ahead" at that speed [:D]?

I've never had any problems hearing the TT at uk speeds top down, and besides the map is pretty good to, so I sometimes "hear" the instruction with my eyes.

You could always get the passenger to keep an eye on the unit and yell in you ear if whilst travelling at 150mph, you hear "turn left in 300 yards", although quite what they'd yell might not reflect the instruction: "For **** sake ignore it!" perhaps...

(Apologies for the implied use of the shortform of "goodness" in the above post [:)])

Well, it's nice to know in advance when to be slowing down [:D]

I've actually ordered one form Tesco Direct - cost me just over £160 (yes for the European version!) so it almost seemed rude not to buy [:D]

At that prie it's a little less painful when they bring out the faster shiner version in the future.
(The Tom Tom one widescreen is coming out very soon - but I don't think it's going to be THAT cheap!)

Thanks everyone for the advice [:)]

Have built a TomTom 910 into my dash board with the antena booster and external mic. Have driven to bottom of Italty and back (hood up and down ) with no great probs. Set has reasonable output-you have to listen a bit hard sometimes but not a real problem. On my 986 S I removed the CD storage unit and storage recess , cut a panel, covered it in leathercloth cut a hole for the Tom Tom so its a push fit and it all looks pretty standard. I assu
me TomTom 1 would have similar output.John.
