Just finished watching tonights Top Gear...

So Lotus do a lightweight Exige... price it at circa £33k, Clarkson goes on about 'adding lightness' and 'taking away everything the customer wouldn't need'...

...I wonder where the inspiration for that came from?

...and to top it off it's painted white... which apparently is coming back in a big way - did it ever go out of fashion?

As an aside, it does keep it's electric windows, and it's not made out of the highest quality german steel and aluminium direct from the Hoesch Stahlwerken in Dortmund, so not entirely true to the RS concept.

It's a shame Clarkson hates Porsche so much - otherwise I'm sure there would have been a mention of Porsche RS in there somewhere.[;)]

Top Gear last night was the biggest load of old rubbish that I have seen for some time. Indeed it was, IMHO, the worst programme of its' type that I have seen for some considerable time. It was not even entertaining for 90% of the programme.

The three presenters were self-indulgent and appeared to be messing about; one item about a fast sports car, one star in a cr*p car, and loads of time about self built amphibious vehicles which kept breaking down. The three of them were having a great time, joking amongst themselves [did I hear James May refer to JC as 'Fartson'?], insulting memebrs of the audience and communicating nothing whatsoever about cars, driving, racing, issues rleevant to their audience [such as speed cameras, fines, road safety etc.] or road craft.

Marks: 0/10 for effort, imagination and content [except the piece about the Lotus]. Must try harder in future.

Of course, I accept that I might be too critical. And what are other views?

I thought last nights wasn't too bad, but the week before where they took over the radio station was not amusing at all. Embarrasing more like. The cool wall and the 'inverted justifications' has rather lost it for me, as well. Trying too hard, perhaps?

Top G is a great show for the average Joe public motorist. But is truly awful as a motoring show. The three of them seem to be reliving there childhood and to be honest who would'nt but it does'nt make for good tv imho. The Lotus bit was the best, apart from the speeded up bits. But who else but us petrolheads would watch a programme like that?

I thought last night's show was very funny. My kids love it.

True, you can't take the car reviews too seriously, and some of the humour is embarrassingly childish, but I think it scores highly for entertainment value.

AGREED ! having been a huge fan, that was awful..... []

they should just call it the "Clarkson, May and Hamster Show" [&:]

Guest was dull, their task.... although fun to watch was the entire show and the Exige was de-ja-vu and the cool wall is just getting old now and what one earth was that woman going on about on the new Jag ! [:'(]

I love it.

But it is a bit like 'Last of the Summer Wine' for for those of us who grew up in the '70s and '80s

I grew up in the 60's, 70's and 80's [perhaps I have never really grown up - I bought my Boxster 2 years ago] - and I do recognise quality in a TV programme.

I am sorry, the programme was a huge disappointment and not worth staying in for. With such new cars as the Aston Martin DB whatever, Porsche 911 GT3 and Turbo, Audi RS, BMW Z4M and others - why waste time in showing childish presenters playing in a broken VW camper van, Triumph Herald and Toyota Hilux? And then trying to get those vehicles to swim? What is possibly entertaining about that beyond about 5 minutes of film clip? It seems that they were just indulging their egos far too much.

And also, was JC called 'Fartson'? If so, it was the best part of teh programme; if not, I have devised a new name for him[:D].

I agree it has sunk (excuse the pun) to the level of trashy entertainment - however I still watch it. I thought JC's comments about those ears were a bit cruel and unnecessary - one fan less maybe? Mind you Fifth Gear isn't much better - I watched last week's episode and couldn't believe the stupid person driving into a parked car. She must have been too busy checking her makeup/hair. How many viewers would have begged for an opportunity like that and she never even made it onto the track.

Missed it last night,
They filmed that at Rudyard lake and I was looking forward to watching that bit, maybe I won't bother now though after you all slating it so much

Thought last nights episode was great - was really laughing out loud at the end with the shambles of the amphibious vehicles.

Then again I take this program for what it is....light hearted sunday night entertainment with a slight motoring theme.

It stopped being a 'serious' motoring program some time ago and if you accept this it's all the better for it [:D]

Looks like the ingredients for a great show!!! I think the concept of Top Gear being a purely motoring magazine programme is no longer valid - the show doesn't take itself too seriously and niether do the presenters, and JC's non-politically correct views are a breath of fresh air in this Nanny State we are living in now. It's more of a lads mag like FHM or Nuts and is just as much about lads doing daft laddy things. The good thing about it is that the wife finds it entertaining herself so I get no grief from her about watching "another" car programme. No doubt the supercars will come, they've got the new 997 GT3 and Turbo to cover yet and i'm looking forward to seeing how they are going to top their superb intercontinental races. Having said that if the show only covered supercars that the vast majority of us will never drive let alone own it would soon get very boring and be axed.

This thread should be moved to the General Discussion Area - Agree with the majority in that TG has gone down the tubes. I have always enjoyed the show, but the last two shows really are scraping the barrel. OK it was funny but compare it to the week before lasts 5th Gear offering with Needel power sliding an Audi RS4 and Plato inches off his bumper in an M3- awseome. Last weeks with Girls Alound and Plato giving a Carrera S absolute death - brilliant.
Just wait 'till the GT3 & 997 TT are given to these boys?
Clarkson will be derisery (?) refer to C.cks and cr.p and slag off his two co presenters who both have Porsches.
Meanwhile Needel and Plato will enjoy and wax lyrical. Just picture the scene - at Ty Croes with VHB getting very erm ... hot and excited, giggles and sliding - can't wait!
G
Now off the soap box!

Some of you guys need to lighten up a bit - TG has been as much about laughs as it is about cars for a long time now.

Every week it manages to be LOL funny. About the only piece of unmissable TV at the moment IMHO.

Guy's, lighten up if you thought Top Gear was a serious motoring programme you've been off the mark for years. 5thGear's half decent but Top Gears been in the mindless entertainment category for ages (I still watch it though!).
I'm told there's something called Pig Brother (or something like that) that's a similar level - but without the cars [;)]
