Tonneau cover

Porsche had an optional tonneau for the 986. It was discontinued as an option a few years before the production of 986s ended. It was not a big seller. It was also sold as a Tequipment part.

Never heard of a tonneau for a 987, just like there are no humps/speedster covers for a 987, or roof rack.

I have an uninstalled 986 tonneau, but have no clue if it would fit a 987.

Picture is a local 986 owner with the tonneau as a factory option

Is it ambidextrous? The one in your pic is a left hooker. Unless the RH drive wheel pocket is just out of view. [&:]

Tool Pants hails from California, they drive on a different side of the road out there!
Yes, we know about Google, but thought the Forum was a better bet, and live in hope.

Ok, I fixed the picture, steering wheel is now on the right side....

You do raise an interesting question. I only remember one version of the tonneau cover, for both left and right hand drive cars.

It was a very expensive option, and it was not practical in actual use on a Boxster. And it took time to put it on and take it off. So it was discontinued as a factory installed option. I always thought this is also why the 986 humps/speedster covers option did not carry over to the 987 model. Same for the 986 RTS, aka roof rack that did not carry over to the 987 model.

Well at least the tonneau cover would keep the leather free of guano.

I can't think of any practical use for the "humps" apart from checking that your credit card works.

Just IMHO....[;)]

So does the roof, which takes far less time than the tonneau (even if its already fitted - you still have to push the seat flat and then zip it up - which has to be awkward...)

Perhaps this should be in the "Pointless Porsche Accessories" thread? [:D]

Just as long as cup holders go in as well! [8D]
