too much grip?

I'm looking for some new track tyres for my standard 16 inch D90 rims.
I'd like to try the Toyo 888's as I've heard some good reports.
My worry is that my car won't handle the extra grip these will give me.
I have a sports supsension set up but don't know when the springs and shocks were last changed (if ever). My mechanic says they are still in good shape with no leaks and the car does drive well on track with my S02's.
I'm worried that without beefing up my ARB's or renewing my suspension I'll just get more body roll and generally ruin the balance of the car.
That said I need new tyres so want to upgrade if I can.

Can anybody offer some advice?

Thanks in advance.

I know yours isn't a 964 RS but I'd ask Des what tyres he uses - I've never seen any body roll when he's been on track!.

Kristian,
I'd be inclined to spend the money on upgrading the suspension before you spend money on sticky tyres. £750 should sort you out with the basic upgrade ie Bilstein HDs and either H&R or Eibach springs. RS anti-roll bars are another £500-ish, but worth it if you intend on doing plenty of track work. Until you've got the most out of the set up you won't be able to exploit the extra grip you're getting from track tyres.
If you want a cheap option on the tyre front try the Marangoni Zeta Lineas. They are very soft compound road tyres which lots of hill-climbers and sprinters use for competition. I'm running them in 17 inch sizes on my RS as road tyres, and they cost me £250 all four corners delivered inc. VAT. Tell me that's not a bargain ! You can get them here www.camskill.co.uk
I used them for a track day at Brands a couple of weeks ago and they were great !

Doesn't there have to be some speed to get lateral-g first...? [:D]

Thanks Jamie - you confirmed what I knew deep down.
No way round it, new shocks and springs all round....
I've seen the Bilstein & H&R kit advertised by Type 911 for £750 (£900 inc VAT)
Do you reckon this sounds a fair price?

cheers

I don't much like my Eibach springs. OK I'm using the original shocks, but to me they are just hard and bouncy so basically it's oversprung and they are meant for the original shocks as I understand it.

What I really wanted and what I will go with if I keep the car is KW variant 3. I was quoted £1,380 for the kit delivered (then I had to buy 6 diesel injectors at £220+ each for the hearse and the money was gone), which is not cheap though not massively more than £900. I have it on my 944 and it's the mutts danglers.

Kristian, looks about right price-wise. There's money to be saved if you can be bothered to ship from the States or even Europe thanks to exchange rates (have saved money from both in the last couple of years).
