Thanks for the prompt replies on my last post regarding airbags. My next question is regarding towing with a 944 S2. Do you know of any sites where i can find information about towing capacities. Have any of you's towed with a 944? And before you ask, it's a caravan, probably a little under 1400 K.G.s. My face is Guards red already!

Cheers
Pile

I have no idea on capacities but I'd have thought the braked capacity will be around or just over 1,400kg and should be listed in the handbook.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]That is assuming you can actually fit a towbar to a 944 - there's an awful lot of oily bits where a "normal" car has a flat floor to mount the brackets to. I think people have seen 944's towing though so it's possible. Maybe not strong enough for a caravan though.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Pile,
Just had a quick look on google and Watling (well known make) do a towbar kit for 944 S2 for about £180. you could probably find a bit more info regards weight limits from either searching on google or contacting your local OPC.

I will keep a diplomatic silence about towing a caravan with a Porsche.[:D][:D][:D]

Thanks Fen. I dont have a 944 yet, though hopefully soon. I'm looking for an S2, red, ABS, leather, air con, substantial history, low owners and very good condition, so no handbook yet

From the handbook s2, cab and turbo

500kg free wheel

1200kg braked

gradients up to 16%

trailer nose weight 50kg

permissable roof load 75kg (only with Porsche basic luggage rack otherwise 35kg) same figs for cab!?!

I used to have a tow bar on my 924s. Easy to fit. Remove rear bumper and mounting brackets, sandwich the plates on the bar between the car and the bumper brackets ( may need longer bolts) this locates the 'bar so you can use the holes in the 'bar as guides to drill the holes for the main mounting bolts two through the rear panel and two (or was it one?) into the spare wheel housing. Watling do two bars, one for 924s and 944s without rear under spoilers and another for S2s and turbos. Try http://stores.channeladvisor.com/towbar/Porsche%2c%20Proton/924%20and%20944

I'm glad Tony posted that because I was sure I had a copy of it but have searched my hard drive high and low and could find no trace [&:]
