Top end re-build mileage`

Hi All
I may have a potential buyer for my SC, but he is concerned about having to spend money very soon on a top end rebuild. He has spoken to a few Porsche specialists who have told him that at my cars mileage, 96k - full service history - never any blue smoke hot or cold and runs great, because it has never had the top end overhauled, it will need it very soon. Whilst I can understand my buyers concern, I would like to allay his fears with hard facts from SC owners. When did your car's need a top end overhaul or have they gone round the clock several times without needing one?
TIA

Hi Jeff,

Mine's still running strong with 125,000 on the clock. Check out the Pelican parts forum, there's plenty of stories of SC's with well over 250,000 miles without any engine work!

Hi,

My SC has now covered 117,000 miles, and as far I am aware has not been rebuilt, mine does puff out a little blue smoke occasionlly when slowing from high revs (I have been told probably valves/guides) I have been advised that a rebuild may cure the problem, but the engine should be good for 150,000+ before really requiring a rebuild, if I can live with a little blue smoke.

So if yours doesn't smoke at all I agree with Mel, " cars mileage, 96k - full service history - never any blue smoke hot or cold and runs great, because it has never had the top end overhauled, it will need it very soon" is rubbish.

If the guy is worried, get a someone to check the actual car, rather than have "specialists" making rash assumptions about a car they don't know.

I hope your sale goes smoothly.
Cheers Dan.

My SC has covered 145.000 miles now, 105,000 with the wheel in my hands. I think this top end rebuild stuff is nonsense unless the engine is clearly knackered and no longer fun to drive or a smokin' gun (thanks George W.) then just keep servicing them until a rebuild stares you in the face.
