Top mount

Would someone mind having a look at the top mounts under their bonnet and tell me which way round they are?
Underneath the top mount is sloped and numpty that I am I didn't make a note before i took them out.
I think the little cut out on the oval mount goes on the outside but I'd rather check.
Thanks
David

Your top mounts should have a stud on the top which, if it's still there, will only allow you to fit the top mount in one orientation.

If it's not there, there should still be some evidence of it, in which case you can orientate it to the hole that will be in the body work for it to fit in.

Cheers

James

P.S. Passed your neck of the woods last Friday on the way to Castle Coombe!

Thanks James.
It certainly doesn't seem that obvious so I suspect it has come off but I'll have a look as I put the other side on and hope I don't have to take the first one off again!

David,

I'm not quite sure I follow your question, but having looked at the top mounts on mine they slope inwards, towards the centre line of the car somewhat.

Would a photo help?

Oli.

Does this help at all - note the 'out' arrow pointing to the outside of the wing as the correct orientation?

... and the adjustable top mount should be the other way round [:D]

Thankfully, they are the right way round on the car![:D][:D]

Oh and that "can't post 2 consecutive posts within a set time thing", really beginning to annoy me!

Just in case any Mods watching! [;)][:D][:D]

Thanks all. I've just had a look and as James says there is a locating lug on the underside of the engine interior mounting point. It just so happened that I put the first one on correctly so didn't realise that I had solved the problem!
Oli you are right it wasn't a well worded question on reflection - the little cut out bit is just under the "U" on Nick's pic.
Anyway hopefully should get the last side on today or tomorrow and then I'll see if it makes any difference!
I chickened out of getting the struts apart and went cap in hand to Steve Bull (and Christian) who very kindly took their air gun to it. I can confirm it takes precisely 5 minutes to disassemble both struts!
Thanks to them - credit where it's due.
Also the springs are not actually under very much tension and it is feasible to both take them apart and reassemble them without the use of spring compressors. I think it would be safer to use them mind!
Finally to add that whilst I couldn't get my struts undone easily with the Draper swan neck spanner (partly due to being a bit of a wuss and wondering exactly what was going to happen to the springs) I did manage to get them back together quite easily.
