Top Mounts and Service Kits

Ok, this follows on from my thread of a couple of days ago, about suspension refresh.

So after 98K I think I definitely need new top mounts on the front, and they are modestly priced at around £60 a piece, BUT is it worth springing another £250 for 2 new mounts at the back I wonder? This is a 'well I'm spending this much, should I just man up and spring for the extra and be sure....?' Presumably they don't take such a battering as the front mounts under braking, but I'd be grateful for views.

Also, I notice there are top mount service kits available from Design 911 as well that include Bellow, Bump Stop, Supporting plate, Compensating plate, Washers & Nut - so will I need all of these bits I wonder or just selective elements?

Probable.Overspend.Required.Seems.Costs,Have.Escalated (as usual!)

If it was me julius you can't take it with you. Spend it because you would have to get the geometry done after you did the fronts and later if you did do the rears you would have to get it done again. Thanks for the advice on the night breaker bulbs well happy

This is a standard job for us (replacing broken front springs). We order the entire strut top section and don't fit what isn't worn. In most cases we will renew:
top mount
bearing
bump stop
compesation plate
support ring
top mount nut

- the plate washers are very expensive for what they are - we avoid replacing these where possible.

without air tools you may find it difficult removing the top nut if the strut top is corroded... Have a fall-back plan in place!

Rears ... It's very rare we find play in the tears - probably because there is limited movement compared to the fronts.

ps not a bad time to replace coffin arms and drop links at the same time.

Thanks for that - did coffins all round last year (don't miss the creak!), doing track rods, hadn't thought of drop links to be honest.
Should I think of upper control arms as well?
That seems to be the problem with suspension for the inexperienced - a never ending series of bits!
Best.
