What is the top indicated speed on your speedo?

My 2.7 is 175mph, are all versions of the Cayman the same?

Cheers.

Hi Giff Just had a look on mine. Top Speed on the speedo is 190mph. Great meeting you last week. Regards A&G

Sounds like it's a case of 175mph on 2.7's and 190mph on the others, surprised they bothered with the lower reading version. Rgds, Dunc.

That's one thing I used to like about Porsches. Each car is different depending on the specification. For example, how the centre console has no blanking plates to show you didn't specify an option such as heated seats.

Nick, I'm not sure that now applies to the button-fest that is the 981 centre console..! Back to the OP. Regardless of the calibration, the analogue speedo is about as useless as the proverbial chocolate teapot: 0-190mph through about 180-degrees of arc. I think Giff is planning to convert to kph, which will be even worse: 0-280kph in his case. Jeff

That's why I said "used to like". Nowadays it's like any other VAG car; plenty of blanks if you don't buy the option.

Managed to find a suitable face from a German company called Heiler-Tachodesign. With a few customisations it came to £90 posted, rather less than the £1200+vat Porsche wanted..

Digital or analog?. On a 981 Boxster its 190, I can't read the analog speedo ;). Why are the analog speedometers so poorly calibrated on Porsches? FBR

I prefer to read off a digital display because it is just a straight read in the same spot each time. With analogue it is find the needle then read off against a scale.

Agreed Ralph. As per my previous post, I reckon that the analogue display is useless, not least in built-up areas. 30mph isn't even numbered. Like you, I prefer the digital readout which is ideally positioned. A HUD would be even better..! Jeff

And of course there is an app for that, https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/speedometer-free-speed-limit/id557871911?mt=8 but I could not find a suitable iPhone mount.

Hmm...nice but just another digital display. I had something more like this in mind: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/technology_guide/articles/head_up_display.html Wake up Porsche..! Jeff

Or even the Corvette's but all I would want is speed with other info by voice. I fear too much 'on screen' would be distracting.

Yes that particular display does look a bit OTT but BMW state that in addition to speed (displayed permanently), other information - presumably slectable - which can be displayed is dependent upon vehicle spec. Not quite sure that I'd want a remote voice shouting warnings at me though (shades of Austin Allegro..!). Jeff

I agree I am sure I have industrial deafness in my left ear with the famous words , "do you need to be going this fast " and can I not get a brake pedal in my foot well like the Driving instructos have. So a voice activated Speedometer already exists in a Porsche .[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]

Job done..
