Top Speed?

Hi

Does anyone have a definitive source for the top speed for a non varioram 993 Convertible?

I know the coupe is quoted as 168mph, but I cannot find anything solid on speeds for the convertible - presumably slower than the coupe [;)]

Reason for asking is that I did some top speed runs at Bruntingthorpe at the weekend, and reached 156mph through the timing lights - car is still accelerating at this point, but similarly powered cars - 964, Caymans etc hit 160 or more so I was wondering how close to the cars maximum I am actually getting.

I would think there may be a little left in the kitty, but not much, don't forget I noticed 180 odd thousand miles, be fair !![;)][;)]

Yep I'm trying not to be too greedy [:D]

Was just interested in finding some documented top speed figures. I was surprised that a 964 would hit 160 in the same distance, but can imagine the drag of the cab roof could outweigh the 22BHP advantage of my NV 993 over a 964

Pete

Stand in front of a narrow body 964 coupé and you can see that it's a very slippery shape. Whilst the equivalent 993 has more raked headlights it also has much wider rear wings - and yes, the extra drag of the cabrio roof will be a factor.

Have you had dyno runs in company with other 993s or 964s ?

My car certainly recorded mid 160s in the trap at B'thorpe, even with the sunroof open .. [;)]

You need to exit onto the straight at 90 ish .. IIRC .. [:D]

cheers, Maurice [8D]

Cheers Maurice, and yours is an S, so less aerodynamic than a standard 993

Lots of discussion on the best approach at B'thorpe - concensus seems to be that speed in the bottom corner does not matter, although I had a couple of runs where I was pushing it pretty hard around there - speeds varied between 151 & 156mph

The car Dyno's @ over 300BHP at 9M [;)]

Also had a dyno run at the old Dyno Dynamics facility at Silverstone where it was a more realistic 282BHP - was the only 993 there but 944's etc were coming out pretty much with standard BHP.

I knew that it would be slower than a coupe, but thought it would be around 160

Hi Maurice

Standard coupe NV is 168, Varioram 172 - its the numbers for the cabriolet that I cannot find - either NV or Varioram

I did always think that the S was slower than a normal varioram coupe due to the extra drag from those good looking hips ;-)

The books claim 171 for a coupe flat chat, they don't split it by body style except narrow / beautiful .. [;)]

cheers, Maurice [:D]

You imagine its Mothers race at the Kids School sports day.[8D]

Which one will you be watching when they cross the line - the 'slim' one a fraction in front of the 'mum' with the curves in all the right places[8|]
I don't think so[;)][;)][;)]

Thanks for confirming that 964s are faster [:D]

But seriously, the one at Brunters was Pesty's and it's in top condition. He's also done Vmax before [;)]
