Topgear: GT2 vs LP560-4

Wow, after Topgear last night I bet Porsche GB are mad as hell that JC burnt the GT2's lap time instead of revealing it was faster in the hands of the Stig than the Lambo LP560-4 or the Ferrari Scuderia.

Got to say though, that out of the 3 cars my preference would be the Lambo - so beautiful and what a sound!

...and yes I know SportAuto mag showed the other day that a 997.2 Carrera S is faster around the NBR than the Lambo due to it's handling problems (despite Lambo providing 3 sample cars to them, one with a track optimized setup).

For those of you who missed it: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lDGauefBpSM

Thought the GT2 review was quite funny - just Clarkson screaming Aaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh with lots of tyre smoke and sideways tomfoolery.

Will they show the GT2 lap later in the series??

The GT 2 is an awesome car. Clarkson is so predictable when he reports on an Porsche, never a good word to say always a beetle. He is now boring me.

The Lambo is a beautiful car.

And yet he gave the 997 Carrera S an excellent review at the time, along with the Carrera GT, and in fact said the 996 GT3 was the best car he drove all year.

He's a closet Porsche fan I reckon. There is no way that he could possible admit to liking them now after all he's said about them over the years. He's a lover of proper engineering, and how is a 911 not the epitome of the triumph of proper engineering over electronic gadgetry? He usually always gives the cars a fair review in terms of their capability. It is clear he hates the brand and the styling of the cars, but he gives them a fair go where it matters. You've got to remember that when he reviews a car he is taking into account the subjective as well as the objective. How many times when reviewing other cars has he favoured the less capable one because it made him feel nicer?

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that the only Porsche he'd have in his fantasy 10-car garage is a 944 Turbo! I was looking for it earlier today - I think it was an article in the Times called 'Clarkson on Porsches' or something like that. Just thought i'd slip that one in ;-)

I watched it Sunday and thought it was predictable..
Some cars they love because they are an animal and fun to drive, another time they slate it for being just the same..
I do like the Lambo, more of an in your face thing like the Ferrari, but sometimes thats not what your after - thus the GT2 sits pretty.

Great that he wouldn't put the times up, says it all at the end of the day... he's always saying the truths in the lap times with the tame racing driver [;)]

You know the top gear GT2 thing was funny but also quite annoying, yes made me chuckle, but I am dying to know the laptime for the GT2 and I would love to have seen it go around the track.
Yes the Lambo looks gorgeous to me & as you say the sound is outstanding, something that has always aluded Porsche really that visceral metallic rumble in the ferrari/lambo way. But I think Gary has hit it on the head for me, I could admire the Lambo but I dont think I could ever feel comfortable in one, too much in your face styling, I just couldnt drive one about without feeling too self concious. Now a GT2 I could quite happily have as an everyday drive and feel quite comfortable...never thought I would think of a car with a spoiler on that size as understated, but I do next to a Lambo!.

Lambo's a bit of a job getting in and out of, whereas the GT2 is quite easy and therefore more of an old man's car! [8|][&:][:)]

I suppose I'd have to agree with you on that [:D]

Clive doesn't have his GT2 any more. He is waiting for his Scud!

Wishful thinking, mate. [&:]
Can't get rids of me that easy! [X(]
Still GT2 mounted - least ways 'till March - maybe longer. Porsche still looms large in my life. [;)]

Interesting. Glad you are still with us Clive [:)]

Change of heart on the Scud? Not able to sell the GT2 as fast as you have liked? Or just keeping the status-quo for the winter months when a GT2/Scud are less usable anyway?

Alex,
Mainly to do with production cut-backs. [&o]
As you know, my Scud was originally earmarked for this Autumn, but the Factory are now saying March '09.

Understandably, there's little appetite in the market for large purchases like GT2's at the moment, so I'm going to enjoy Colin's 430 Scuderia and my own car for the next few weeks and see what the New Year brings.

Having a choice of 2 of the world's most sought-after sports cars is a great privilege and one I am most fortunate to have so there's no need for me to rush headlong! [:)]
Regards,
Clive
