Topless Insurance

This is my first summer of open top motoring and I am currently trying to get a definative statement from my insurer as to whether or not I am covered if the car is locked but the roof is left down. It is not specifically mentioned in their policy schedule and I have currently only received a vague suggestion that it should be ok.

Does anyone have a view on this? What does your insurance company require? Have you had to make a claim following a roof down theft/damage?

It's never crossed my mind before but surely common sense dictates that if you are parking your car and leaving it you put the roof up.

It only takes few seconds after all and it stops our feathered friends from crapping in your seat!

JCB..

I have a clause in my policy which states that accessories will not be covered unless they are in the glove compartment, and the glove compartment is locked.

No mention of whether the roof needs to be up or down

Bit risky leaving the top down.

Saw an MGF on Saturday parked up with the top down and some kind soul had thrown a McDonalds Milk shake in the car[:(]

Charming.

Dont quite understand why you'd 'need' to leave the roof open... It just makes you a target... I've seen much worse than the Milkshake carton! Think what dogs produce at parks and kind owners dont want to take home in their warm tintop.... Yepo

I only leave mine off if it is in the Garage - locked away.
