Torque settings for wheel nuts?

Hilux

New member
I have just checked my front pads and gained an extra pair of gonads undoing the ally wheel nuts []

One on the rear offside wheel has `rounded` off [:(] How do I best remove it?

The hand book show 94 lb ft of torque [][] Can this be right with ally nuts?

BTW all the mating faces and threads were clean and lubricated when removed.

i use 90 no problems. you might wanna get down to a tyre fitting shop to get that nut off. they may be able to use some air tools to loosen it, or some have tools to get off old locking nuts that may do it.

94 ft lbs seems high, but that is correct. Porsche also publishes 96. That range is correct, just make sure you do the star pattern when socking down to final torque.

There are special sockets that will grab a rounded nut. Or you can pound on a smaller socket - though you will never be able to use it again for much. Tire/tyre shops can also get it off pretty easy. They should only charge nothing or a few quid. They run into this all the time so have the drill down pat.

I think I`ll have to get a six sided socket a la air tool []

Cant think why the torques so high though []
