Torque Tube Hooks

Gents, do all torque tubes have the metal hooks ?

Looking on EBay some have and some haven't, I know some people cut them off to aid removal of the torque tube.

My own does not have them, the transaxle and tube had never been out of the car until I removed them, there is no sign on the torque tube of cutting/grinding where the hooks would be.

Confused ?

All the best, Paul

Torque tubes did not have the hooks from the 87 or 88 model year on.

Their purpose was to prevent the whole powertrain from moving too far forward in case of a rear crash, but I would guess that far more many cars needed their clutch replaced than cars being badly rear-ended, hence they disappeared. Most dealers probably mentioned to the factory that the hooks were like adding an insult to the already injury of replacing a worn-out clutch.

Interestingly, our 987 Boxster has a toughened steel cable that attaches the block to the rear beam as a similar safety device. Porsche really did think of everything ahead of their time.

Fancy that! I was going to suggest looking at several PETs but if Tom knows then there's no need.

Thanks for the flowers Simon, but I couldn't tell when the change occured precisely... Does PET show different illustrations? Never paid attention... [8|]
