Torque Tube

Hi

I need to have the torque tube on my 944 Turbo rebuilt. Can anyone recommend a decent Porsche independent where I can get this done? I'm guessing that any decent mechanic can do the job (i.e not me!), but I thought it might be quicker taking it to specialist?

Thanks, Doug

It 's often cheaper to buy another TT from a breaker and hope that it's bearings are good?

But you may want to Restore your original.

It' s not an easy job, as removal is tricky then sourcing the correct bearings, the way they fit and the strategic positions they are placed is important to stop "whip" etc...

BS Motorsport are good and could do it, they are down in Westcott venture park (Aylesbury Bucks)

Quite interested to know more about the difficult jobs!

I know little of the setup, is it simply put a tube, with a couple of bearings either side that the driveshaft through the middle?

Also what are the indication that the torque tube requires a rebuild?
I'm assuming wining sound with vibration running through the vehicle?
Do you get it coming off load? Or applying it? Or constantly?

Yes,

I've seen these Guys Teilecar (Poland) for a fair amount of time, I've not bought anything from them yet but was in talks with them a few years ago in regard to them making me an Aluminium Torque Tube, which I decided to "pass on" after all the usual talk of strength etc..but they do seem to sell quite a few interesting Porsche Components and to buy a Ready Reconditioned Tube is for sure an Option, all depends what cost a Uk company would want to remove the old & fit it, or do the lot (Recon he bearings as well)

They list this rear Ferrari Style deck hatch spoiler

I've heard a few good recommendations for RGA Porsche torque tube rebuilds over the years. They advertise in the back of the club magazine and I am sure I saw a price of £150 plus removal and refit (don't quote me on that though)

I'm glad this came up, as I've been considering doing mine as my engines out and I have a little whine....I think anyway?? ?

will be watching this thread with great interest. Links are great, looking forward to reading through them all??

Hi guys

just an update - I'm dropping off the Torque Tube to RGA in London next week. I've been quoted 275.00 + vat which seems a bit of a no brainer. JMG were a bit reluctant to help and quoted 500.00+ vat for a bearing kit plus labour, or 1000.00 + vat for an exchange tube. I'll let you know how i get on!

Please keep us updated, dropped my torque tube off the car yesterday as part of my strip/rebuild, would probably make sense to send it to RGA for a going over at that price.

cheers, Paul

Definitely update us with how you got on, I have a clutch to do (complete with noisy thrust bearing) and as I have what sounds like nsr wheel bearing drone I thought it might be time to refresh the torque tube to see if it is actually the culprit.

Just to give an update. RGA turned around the torque tube in a few days, really good service. The difference just spinning it up by hand is light and day.Very old school, don't bother emailing just ring them up. Definitely recommend getting the tube off yourself and dropping it off rather than them doing it, as they looked mega busy and it's a bit of a madhouse - cars crammed everywhere under the arches in Vauxhall, London. The tube is back in, as is gearbox, so doing a few tidying up jobs then will post pictures and report back!
