Torrential rain vs 996TT

Can I just confirm my 996TT doesn't mix well with the river running down the A55 last night at rush hour! I tiptoed home on a very light throttle with white van men, sorry Gary, passing me at a zillllllion mph. The car was all over the road and using the 996 wipers, well, the less said the better. Just glad to have zenons!.[][8|] What a night!

Roll on the 997TT[:D]

Hammered down all the way home last night for me too.

996TT was awesome and stuck to the road like glue......and lets just say I wasn't going particularly slow.

You best get your car and tyres checked!

I regularly drove the 996TT in torrential rain and thought the handling was very good. In fact I always think the vehicle makes the weather seem calmer than it is.

Tyres?

My C4S was fine as I drive home through it all.

Mind you there were some big puddles!

Craig

Having ploughed through the rain on the way back from the Workers conference at 50mph due to the car being not that happy on the standing water I agree with you Craig..

In really heavy rain my 996 did have a tendancy to aquaplane all too easy... fat tyres on the rears not helping...

Mind you Last night in Chesire(so not that far away) it was mayhem on the M6... and that was in my skinny tyred Van [:D][;)]

You are right to be cautious in adverse weather. 4wd can give a false sense of security.

Best drivers always know when to adjust for the conditions [;)]

Beavercrag, What is it about the 997tt that makes it handle better than the 996tt in the wet? I would have thought the even wider tyres would make it even more prone to aquaplaneing ? I find my 996tt brilliant in all weathers. Obviously you have to adjust driving style to the amount of grip that is available, but I actually find it fun and use the car all year round. Only duff tyres and out of adjusted wheel alignment ever make it feel anything less than planted.

Strange my 996TT was always completely awesome in torrential rain, traction was amazing, but it went all unpredictable when the roads were damp & slightly greasy, like a typical winters day when the roads don't ever go dry, then it would have a mind of its own. Maybe simply set up or tyres that creates the variances in 996TT's. Although clearly the new 997TT 4WD system has taken another step forward!

I have driven my 996TT in thick snow with very little trouble, was the fastest car on the road. Never had any trouble in the rain, best get the car checked

Yep, same here, never had any feeling,in the wet, other than outstanding grip, given the conditions, and i know the feeling when a powerfull 4WD does let go []

Saw a 57 plate 997 C2S in the bank this morning. The tyre marks left in the frost suggested he had done a 360!

I'll leave all you brave men to hammer along!
I'll stay being a woosh in this weather, and yes my 996tt felt very solid at 20mph on the ungritted frost covered road.

Craig,
If you come to Woodvale next year,I will give you some driving instruction on the slippy grass;you are clearly not safe to be mixing it with all those sheep, goats & chickens.[:)][:)].Any way,Brumstromn? wouldn't approve of speed in those conditions.

Not sure about the goats but all the sheep and chickens around me all end up dead and in a chiller cabinet for sale to people like you!. "Better to be late in this life than early in the next!"

Might be interesting to compare tyre brands as some are a lot better than others in wet conditions. That may have been major part of problem

Never mind the tyres, what about the tyre pressures ?? I find they make a huge difference on my ancient 993. I found I was running the fronts underinflated recently. When I put an extra 6 PSI in each side it felt like a different car.

Worth checking.

i am running my winter wheels just now, oem gt2 wheels with pilot 2s, and i find the car very good in the wet , even with 315s on the rear. tires?
