Torsion Bars

Just out of interest, are the front torsion bars on a 3.2 'handed' or are they identical n.s. and o.s. ?

Urrm, that's what I thought. A friend of mine has been given a bit of a fishy tail from a local (reputable!) specialist, he's been told that the torsion bars had been fitted to the wrong side of the car. A bit of sour grapes I feel, as the original work had been done by another local specialist!!!

Whilst reviewing Pelican, I have come across a number of torsion bars for sale. Close-up photos of some are clearly stamped with a 'L' or 'R' and in some cases the number of splines. These may well have been aftermarket bars though.

I think once you use them on one side, you may not want swap sides ie reverse direction of twist, but the Weltmeister and Sanders bars I got in Jan 04 were identical side to side. They have a different number of splines front and rear but that does not make them LH and RH. The L and R markings may just be for covenience to avoid if they are later removed and reinstalled.
