Total 911

Bought Total 911 today as it has an article on the 964 RS and found the magazine to be a bit average as usual. Certainly not worth 4.25 in my opinion. Not really anything new and even the photography seemed distinctly average this time. Its been a while since I have read something car related that is original has really interested me. Even the RS pictures looked a little fake shot in a studio.

On the plus side, that is probablt the cleanest I have seen Matt's RS, guessing someone must have cleaned for the photoshoot!!

Matt - where are you now that you are famous?

Agree with ur comments re mag ...........perhaps look at RSR s comments on the article on pistonheads ...........he spots modt of the deliberate mistakes !

Tooo many mags now bit like the top shelf but more satisfying....Thanks for the chilli at Donington good to see you when are next out ?

Tks for the ride ...............dont feel sick now ! 6/10 Silv GP with Goldtrack hope to take GT2 ..........................

I have to disagree guys and say that I quite like Total 911, it has become my favourite monthly read. I think the photography in issues 1-4 has been fantastic, very moody and dramatic but haven't seen issue 5 yet.

911 & PW doesn't seem to be what it was 2 years ago, for me anyway. I consider it as the less rewarding read nowadays.

Just my opinion.....

I'd put Total 911 third in a class of three UK magazines, lazy sloppy journalism. Paul Mclean gave them a deserved going over on Pistonheads.
I think that GT Purely Porsche is much better since Chris Harris started writing for it

i quite like the mag and you have to remember it's in it's infancy too. The RS article had errors in it the most notable the wheel picture but on the whole I thought it was a reasonable read. Your not going to find anything new or revelationary in any new 964RS articles, it all been done before. I don't think the article or the mag is aimed at the technically minded( maybe i'm wrong). Hence the rather broad brush approach (rather too broad at times maybe).
I used to buy em all but space to keep them and time to read them seem to be less and less and of course the interweb has almost as much info these days. I think that's the reason that most mags now seem to lack any sparkle.

Whilst on the subject, I think there are very few Porsche jorno's who have the ability to write with a decent level of technical depth and accuracy. they are out there but they are few.

I quite like the approach of some of the German car mags where they bench/track/road test a lot of products and give technical info on results eg how much quicker around a circuit a 964 RS is than blah, blah, blah or what effect several brake pads have on brake distance and feel etc. Getting fed up of the "its a drivers car and you'll only notice the extra feedback if you've raced in F1 or are a journo" generalisms followed by some pretty pictures.

If only I could read German .........

Inclined to agree with Paul about the order of the British mags, although the mistakes in GT PP are sometimes beyond dumb, and Chris Harris is certainly not imune, in an other wise good article on the 3.0RS we have the statement "It's an immaculate engine bay, but bare enough to clearly show the Porsche Logos on both sides of the crank case" - er would that be on the rocker covers? That apart the current issue is one of their best in recent months - even if lacking in the 964RS department.
However, I still think Excellence is head and shoulders above the rest of the English language mags.

I thought total 911 this month was quite good, but then I could be BIASE !!!!!!!!

Well I think issue 4 is by far & away the best. [:D]

It would defo be better if they got the technical stuff correct. e.g they said the 3.2 CS came with much bigger brakes as standard than they did & for a while they also had the BHP for the 993RS as 200!
