Touch up paint

Hi I have recently bought a metallic black 993 paint code L744. I have a few stone chips and need to touch them in. I believe that L744 has been discontinued and replaced by L746. Does anyone know if this is the same colour or compatible? Tips on best place to source the paint sticks please.

thanks

Richard

Interesting to note that the code in the link is given as L744/L746/Z8, so it looks like the code has been updated somewhere along the way. I know that Basalt Black is still available as a Porsche colour and from what I've seen (without making a direct side by side comparison)it appears to be exactly the same colour as my 993.

I would love to know why Porsche saw fit to change the number.

Porsche superceeded 744 to 746 as you say, that link wont be for Genuine touch up, we stock the Genuine 746

Hi Clyde,

Not sure if this is correct but I read somewhere that it related to the rules on now using water based paints (ie the law forced a formulation change so the code changed).

I'm pretty sure that Porsche have used water based paints since at least the start of 993 production but as you say they maybe had to change the formulation to meet a European Direction or something. If that was the case though I would have thought that all the other colour codes would have changed as well and I'm not sure that they have.
