Touch up paint?

Mikomotor

New member
Having taken loads of care opening the door over the last couple of years, I've just got my first slight scratch right on the edge of the drivers door (just caught a wall).

For other cars I've owned, the maker has sold small bottles of 'touch up paint'. Is it possible to find the same for Porsches? (Need Black).

Thanks.

bad luck - yes Porsche do the same; comes with a seperate clear lacquer as well; order from your OPC or specialist; the brushes are quite thick so it maybe worth investing in a fine brush

Any quick fix solution for stone chips? Everywhere I have asked, they say it needs a re-spray of the entire panel...

Do a search for "langka" - It might be what you are looking for (and if it doesn't work for you, then you were already looking at a respray...)

I've had reasonable results with langka - takes some effort though.

To save my doors (narrow garage) I screwed 2 wooden batons to the garage wall at door height, and placed cut lengths of hosepipe under them. Then when I fall out of the car (since I'm a lanky b@gger getting in/out in the garage isn't straightforward) the door doesn't get smacked against the wall.

Door saving stategy in our garage, is a length of pipe insulation foam sliced down the middle and hot-glued to the garage wall.

Don't laugh, but Halfords of all people will mix you a little bottle of touch up paint for £8:99. I have had three different ones made for different cars, and they have been remarkably accurate. Great for minor scrapes and stone chips.

As an alternative to langka, try the Halfords Paint Cleaner - comes in a spray can for £3.99

touch in the chips / scratches, leave for a week. Then take a piece of soft cotton cloth, wrap tightly around a thin strip of plastic (like an old credit card) , soak the edge in paint cleaner and use the edge to smooth away the excess.

Larry stappled a cardboard box to the wall

.....carpet off-cuts inside my garage......maybe I'd better have a portable piece for future tight spots out and about.........

Mikomotor - Not sure what an OPC charges for the touch up, but I ordered some and they never came up with the goods after chasing them up twice[>:] However, I ordered some from Porscheshop.com (£16 incl delivery) and it came the next working day[:)]. I've just used the clear lacquer and I'll be taking the advice about the credit card and cloth to rub down - thanks Black80XSA!

Avoid this again, have a look at www.rubberlinings.co.uk on there news page they offer a new car door protector kit for garage walls.

Hi David
have you tried this approach? if so I presume you're happy with the results?
all the best
Andrew

Yes Andrew - on 2 chips and no matter how careful i was with the touch up stick (and i mean cocktial stick here, not the touch up brush) there was some excess - the paint cleaner smoothed it off nicely.

I tried 2 different branches of Halfords at the weekend and could not find this.

Can you confirm it is actually called this? (Before I make a fool of myself asking one of the staff, then having to try and explain what it is for, and being directed to the "chip-stick" display instead[;)])

ditto!
Halfords Bury St Edmunds claimed to have no knowledge of the product

Sorry guys - my receipt say paintwork cleaner, but the can says Surface Cleaner

Staff are hopeless in Hellfords nowadays - not the same since Helen left [:D]
