Hi guys , can any of you tell me where i can get a touch up paint for my 1988 'celebration' 911 the code is L697. I have tried entering this code into a few 'paint code finder' tools on web sites but it is not listed. I know that the colour is specific to the 'celebration' cars produced for sale in 1988.

heres hoping Ray

Hi Ray. Don't know whereabouts your based but there's a company on the A49 North side of Warrington that will mix on the spot paints to match any colour. Don't know how good they are but they've been in business for years so must be doing something right. If your interested there on the same side as the new Tesco's 24hr super store just past the rock-climbing "church" as I said, north side of Warrington town centre.

Ray,

If you don't get any luck locally (wherever you are) you might like to try www.paintscratch.com. They are in the US but they can supply just about any OEM colour. Your colour (L697) is listed as Diamond Blue Metallic Clearcoat.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave

If it's Diamond Blue Metallic it's a Volkswagen colour (I know its a crushing blow to the ego but there). I have had some made up if you want to try the code email me

The larger (out of town style) Halfords are able to mix paint as a brushable touch-up OR an aerosol. I've tried the aerosol on my own Porsche and the match was extremely good and after three years still looks as good as the original finish.

Simply take your Porsche paint code along and they'll search their computer for the correct mix of pigment etc. They mix it while you wait by weighing the various colours on electronic scales and it's a lot less expensive than some of the specialists.

The 'absolute best' (and more expensive) option is an automotive paint specialist who can 'match' the paint on your car (rather than mixing to a paint code). The minute the car leaves the factory when new the elements, UV and cleaning has an effect on the colour of the car and a good automotive paint shop should take this into account.

Thanks all , will try halfords first as there is one in Belfast , 30 mins away, if that doesn't work I will move on to the others. The VW comment was a bit uncalled for!!! A friend calls my 911 'just a fast beetle' isn't envy an ugly thing.

Touch up sticks are about a tenner from the dealers, and mine (GP White 1977 car) was a pretty poor match, although that could be down to the primer/rust treatment under it. Darker colours wouldn't suffer from this so badly

In future I'll consider taking my petrol flap into a local paint supplier to see if they can do any better at matching it.

ORIGINAL: Amolak911

what is the difference between 719 and 720 black?

There are a lot of different blacks - it just depends of what year the car was produced and what colour was ordered. If you look at www.paintscratch.com and choose the correct year and make you will see what colours were available (including the colour code). The colour code for each car is printed on the information label inside the bonnet and in the service book.

Touch up paints should only ever be chosen on the basis of the paint code - not the name

Dave.
