I know it's not a Porsche story, but nevertheless I thought it was worth posting. See here:

And before Paul starts getting any bright ideas about LIL, the answer is NO!

You tightwads :ROFLMAO:

If it helps build any sympathy, I too have many health issues - I've been a bit sniffly this afternoon, I cut my finger peeling potatoes and I have some dry skin in between my toes that I'm worried about [:'(]

What a lovely gesture between true friends and true enthusiasts.

Oh I don't know, I'll have a go if you like. How do Papier-mache wings sound? I reckon I could knock some up. Probably best not to go out in the rain afterwards though.

I can solve the brakes by simply removing the engine, which dispenses with the need for them in the first place. I don't think finding a safe place to store the engine would pose me much of an issue either [;)]

Shuttup and start a new thread telling us about your rebuilt head (if you have it back yet? )

Lol! Yep, got it back last night and I'm rather happy (to put it mildy) [:D]. I'll start a thread when I've done a few more miles, partly as I've been taking it easy to start with, but also because I've had lots of loose parts in the cabin that I needed to off load first.

But I can't resist saying I seriously think this is the most worthwhile S2 mod so far. How much is to do with it being fresh and how much is down to Simons tweaks I'm not sure, but given it was at a healthy 215bhp before I suspect the latter may well be the case.

I can provide free advice on side skirts. [:)]

It will be a differrent story if it was a Ford Mondeo to be restored. [:D]

Would you really restore one of those?:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It's probably better screwed together now than when it left the factory! I've driven an Excel SE and cannot believe it was a rival to the 944. I know 924/944 have many VW bits but that Excel had door handles from a Maxi i think & shutlines you get your hand through!

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm sure that Esprit Turbo is a fab drive and i quite like the 007 wedgey styling. I think that William Towns must have gone to the same design school before penning the Aston Martin Lagonda!

The trouble is that every car enthusiast site is full of people convinced that their car is the best car ever produced, bar none. I'm sure that there is even a Ford Mondeo owners club and Vauxhall Vectra Owners Club, all of whom will spout on about how cr4p everything else on the road is. And, let's face it, we have all heard the usual derogatory comments about 944's (VW-van-engined, dirt slow, poor-man's-porsche, terrible 80's styling, huge polar moment of inertia therefore doesn't turn in etc etc etc).

But back to the original story - it really is heartwarming. I'd have loved to see the reunion of man with machine.

Yes a truely heart warming tale. If you read the Pistonheads forum & go to the link for the You Tube clip you can view the moment Simon clapped eyes on the Esprit @ Castle Combe. I defy you not to well up!

that really is such a nice thing for anyone to do shows that there is still some really nice people out there.

There is someone who has just started where I work who is part of the Skoda enthusiasts club and the Vauxhall owners club all I can say is why??

Driven a Skoda recently? Try it - you might just like it. They are FANTASTIC cars. How Skoda make them for the price is beyond me - I suspect that someone must be staling something from somewhere to keep the costs down ...

Mind you, Vauxhall enthusiasts club - that's just daft!

It's more to do with the older ones apparently now even I know they are just heaps.

The new ones I agree are quite nice, just VWs only better priced and there is nothing wrong with that.

That's a lovely story well worth recounting.
It reminds me of "The Tailor of Gloucester", how many of you know the true story behind that little book [8|][8|][8|]
