Thinking of getting a removable towbar fitted to my Cayenne GTS.
Any words of advice or expierences on this matter

Hello Macporsche
Today may be your lucky day. Let me tell you a bit of a story.

My son had a Cayanne S 2004, he has sold it now.
He bought the car second hand from a car (not a Porsche specialist) dealer. The car was not fitted with a towbar but in the luggage area in the special shape for the towing attachment was a brand new never been used Westfalla attachment. The lower rear valance did not have the access panel to fit the attachment.
Porsche GB confirmed that when the car was sold new it had a towing bracket assembly fitted.
I suspect that some time during its life the car had a rear end shunt and to save money the towbracket was not replaced or a second hand rear valance was fitted for cheapness.
Consequently for the last year I have had this brand new towing attachment sitting on a shelf in my garage.

This part is 50% of the cost of the towing bracket assembly. If you are interested I am sure we can do a deal for the purchase of this attachment. As I said it is brand new there is not a fitting mark on the ball or the tapered shaft. It all works and there is one key.
If you are interested call me on 01538 703171, I live in Staffordshire but we may be able to meet somewhere convenient if you want to do a deal.
Best regards
ALAN

Hello Macporsche
Put it down to old age but I miss-typed my own phone number.

The Porsche tow bar fittment is made by westfalia. There are a few types including an electric folding version. You can either purchase the tow bar direct from Porsche or the OEM westfalia item from someone like PFJones . Whilst it's perfectly possible to fit diy the electrical part (it has it's own controller) is PITA and involves removal of a fair bit of trim panels in the rear luggage compartment. Some models also require that the new controller is coded Via the Porsche system tester, which will mean a visit to the main dealer or indie with the correct equipment to code it.

Hi

I have just posted a topic in the cayenne forum about my tow bar as it's key is stuck in it. I am wondering whether anyone looking at this topic knows anything about getting the key out.

Ben

The key should come out when twisting the knob / lock mechanism . You have to get the tow ball in the locked position to unlock the key if that makes sense ! all the while the ball part is retracted the key stays in the lock.

Just wanted to say. I have released it. It seems that the spring loaded catch on the back needed popping back. I did that while turning the knob clockwise and it popped. Sorted.

Thank you. I'm picking up a new boat on Friday and had a slight nervous moment there!

And just to update you all. It is the westfalia model and a simple thing like someone putting the key fob back on the wrong way around can confuse the heck out out of you! Basically it was all working but the key showed the device as being locked instead of unlocked.

Hi everyone,

I managed to figure out why the tow ball wouldn't pretension but now I have slightly different issue. It will not lock in position and spin the handle back.

It seems to locate correctly and the knob parts spins back but will not go all the way. I have tried pushing back the small catch on the back that gets pushed when it locates but it has no effect.

Please help! I was going to pick up my new boat today!

Thanks in anticipation...

Hello BenIbell
If you need a new towball assembly the one I have is still available. From a 2004 car but is totally unused.
Looks straight out of the box.
A deal is available at the fraction of the price of one from Porsche.

Hi Alan,

Many thanks. I have sorted mine out. Out of interest, how much do you want for it?

You can email me at ben_ibell at hotmail.com

Thanks

Ben
