If you have the misfortune to break down and be towed home, check out the towing attachment to the chassis leg. Photo is tow bracket on an '82 924 that I recently bought.
It may well be the result of a 'snatched' tow but the result is worrying. Solid looking ring has decent welds to a metal pressing that is spot welded to chassis leg.
There is no serious rust by the spot welds that could have contributed to this failure by the way. If you look closely you will see that one of the central pair of spot welds was never actually fused. The others have torn away with surprising ease.
