Towing

ORIGINAL: PAUL RUDDY

Has anyone regularly towed a caravan with their 944 ?

Cheers, Paul
I know yours is a later model than this

but the unbraked and braked weight for a trailer are 500 and 1200kgs respectively. I looked at a later owners manual and there weren't any figures given. Anything in your manual? Also what size 'van are you thinking of? They do vary somewhat! 2 berths come in at around 1100kgs, I think. BTW, I hate caravans but like to Google![;)]

this person did at least once

The person I bought my towbar from used it for towing a caravan around Iceland with a Turbo! In my experience a 944 tows very well. I haven't a towbar on either of the turbos (yet[;)]) so can't comment on that, but the basic 2.5 is fine, but the S2 is better. Usual towing issues apply. I have towed 944's and 924s up and down the country with ease. A little box trailer loaded with all sorts (most recently 3 x 4m oak beams!), the only real PITA was a 912, but only because it was loaded nose first so the weight was, er, just about as wrong as you could get. It is the only time I have ever felt the back of a car feel like the back would break away inwards on a corner... Not that it was anywhere near breaking away, but it really did feel weird!
