toying with buying a 924 Turbo

Usual story, what am I looking for it's not been used in years.

Sat in the garage.

The Turbo has been niggling me for a while now.. infact a 924 has. I bought a 944 last year having looked at them for a few years and when i bought it I wished I had bougth on years ago.. I am thinking the 924 might be the same as well..

I think you ought to drive a 924 Turbo before you embark on another project, Mark.... You still have the merc's engine to finish, a 356A in a 11 year old resto and the tunnel is very long indeed, you hardly have time to drive the burgundy 912 nor the 944 cab and when you do, the alternator goes pop because you don't use it.

Come up to me and you can drive a 924 Trubo, a 924S, the 911 or a 964 c4 to get it out of your system, but..... finish your bits! I want a spin in that 280SE before petrol runs out!!!!

LOL

You sound like a shrink..

Right the Mercedes is out the machine shop and I have a FULLY reconditioned head with £700 of new parts in the head alone. She's as new as they come. I have even gone to town and bought new timing chain and gear wheels so it's done 101% then

It's booked in for MOT next week and she's currently being trailered on Wed to the work shop to be fitted all back togeather

The 356 A nope don't have one of them I have a 356 PRE A!! and the longer I leave it the more it's worth.. currently more than Gold per Oz

The Burgandy 912 was used a bit this year and I have used it only 2 weeks ago when Pigeon decided that my 912's windscreen was the meathod of Exit for his life.

The 944 well yes it's not used much but when it does it's for long journeys..

The Allegro looks to have a buyer I am happy to let having this Time warp of excellence, the Ka's have all gone the Fiat Punto is fixed and sold.. the Camper van T5 is still being used as a surf bus on our local beach and what a tool that is.. The other T5 is great but needs a clean. The other 912s are coming along slowly but the one in the US is just sat there. I may part with or keep I am still unsure..

So all in all not too bad really..

the 924 Turbo looks an interesting little project.. but then I have seen an XK8 Cab that has had a front end bump which looks great at £2k £1500 to fix and I have a £5.5k Convertable Jag.. hmmmm or the 924 ????? or another 944 I have seen local ...

Be wary of the newly listed 931 on PH - MGF 423Y. Up last night at £1,695 and now edited and increased to £2,995. Its a late registered series one which is clean and in unusually good condition in a number of areas, but Ive driven it (when it was advertised locally at £1,295) and it has virtually no oil pressure as soon as it warms up.

Just a thought... I am guessing from the earlier post 912UK is reasonably handy with the spanners... are there anythings that regularly occur on 924 turbos that cause low oil pressure that it could be a simple fix?

I must admit I much prefer to buy a car on which the problems are known, and I know I can fix, than paying for something which is seemingly perfect, and has something expensive bubbling away under the surface!

Tref.

No known issue that Im aware of, unlike an early 944. I even spoke to a specialist but they said that theyd need six hours to take the engine out and have a look...
