TQ: Crank sensors 924 Turbo

As far as my investigations have taken me on the internet, the crank sensor on the 924 is pretty much a one off for the car. You have to remeber that the Turbo engine pretty much has only the block, crank and rods in common with the other VAG derivatives, and its use in the AMC gremlin was also in the guise of a normally aspirated eninge with conventional ignition systems. Further more, all 924 turbo engine were assembled in Stuttgart, and not at Audi's plant in Neckersaulm. The manufacturer of the sensor and control unit was Seimens. It may be that tucked away at the back of a shelf there might be a new sensor, possibly in Italy as the model was sold there until 1983 for some reason. The sensor seems to fail with lack of use. Mine was perfectly alright until a three month lay up, and there's the rub; any sensor that has been hanging about may well be U/S but until someone come up with a decent set of readings from a known good one we have no spec. to measure against, or manufacture to. One thing I haven't done up till now is contact Porsche Cars in Germany to see if they have the spec., and whether they would care to make the data available. That is going to be my next step
 
Are they good sparks or bad sparks?

I presume you have worked some witchcraft on some wiring and small boxes of electronic components that nobody else understands and, somewhere, an engine has burst into life?

I have a stream of sparks coming from the DITC unit out through a spark plug attached to the main distributor lead. Not connected to the engine but by means of a spare cam wheel in a battery drill. This proves a theory. I am waiting to take delivery of a sensor ordered from a company in the USA which should fit in the hole. The only thing I am disappointed about is the complete and utter lack of any kind of "brotherly help" from club members, which is completely at odds to the ethos upon which this club was based when it was formed in the sixties. I am half inclined to keep any further development detail to myslef and let those non-contributors go to hell. Strong words I know but people who could have helped but didn't should ask themselves how they would feel if the boot was on the other foot. It is not as if this was something just for me after all.
 
Unbelievably, the sensor from the now defunct ebay special still works and the engine on the project car is now running again. It looks like a much newer sensor, it is a different colour so lets hope there's a good ten years life in it.
