Hello all, another question for you all to ponder

I'm having a problem with my 924 Turbo, with occasional backfiring and running a bit rough, particularly in town where I have to keep the revs up. It's fine on the open road! Could you offer any suggestions?

The car is kept in good order, well serviced etc. What is the current recommended spark plug please for this car? Look forward to hearing from you.

Have a good Christmas.

Well there was a thread to Geof Ives, as he had what sounds like the same problem. The 924 turbo, but not all of them I am told, has an engine management unit under the heater matrix served by a multi pin plug. If the connections become loose or corroded the unit will give an erratic ignition timing, which from my own experiences seems to retard the igtion severely. Sometimes there is no spark at all and unburnt fuel gathers in the silencer, inducted and expelled by the momentum of the engine. Something hot comes along and bang. Sadly this can also herald the start of the breakdown of the flywheel sensor for which there is no known cure as the sensor is no longer avaiable, and brother we have tried some serious sufing; the only solution is to souce a good used one should the worst happen.
Plugs are Bosch W3 DP / W4 CS, Beru 14-4 CS , Champion N3G or equivilant, 0.6 to 0.7 mm gap

John (924nutter) helped me a couple of years ago and saved me much time and money .
Basicly it is only for series 2 Turbos. Pull out the radio and behind it is the ignition module (spark box call it what you will) there is a multiplug similar to a scart lead. Pull it out, clean the contacts with contact cleaner and push it back...Job done.

In may case the previous owner had fitted a new module and the rubber gater was acting as a spring and pushing the contact plug out.

John I will always owe you a favour for that one.
