If the battery is good (fully charged) it should be possible to start it and drive that distance.
Without an alternator and therefore a 'fan' belt fitted, the water pump will not be turning but unless its a very hot day it shouldn't overheat in that distance.

I can't see there's much difference between this and the situation where the red alternator warning light comes on when you're driving along (showing you the battery is not being charged).
You then know you've only got a few miles (or less at night) before the battery runs flat.
 
My son drove a Renault from France to Rome with no alternator. It burnt out. He swapped batteries every few hours with the chaps in the convoy to get him there.
As vince stated, the only issue is if the water pump is being turned.
