Traced oil leak, now what!

I've had a mystery oil leak for some time that has dripped down the rear corner of the block, onto the engine ID plate and then down the rest of the block and finally onto the manifold and burnt off with a puff a smoke. Not a major problem (famous last words) as it is only slight and only happens when the engine is running.

I've now tracked down the leak and am now wishing I hadn't!

The leak is coming from that hex bolt in the middle of the picture, if I slacken or remove the bolt oil starts to drip slowly out. For reference, the red bit is the rocker cover at the very back left of the engine, picture taken from below. Have nipped the bolt up a bit tighter for the time being but will get some sort of gasket on it to hopefully stop the oil leak for good.

Only problem is that the bolt doesn't look like it belongs there as it looks to be bolted into a weld! Anyone got any idea what's going on there or should I just seal it up and move on?

Thanks, David

Funnily enough I have just finally sorted a similar annoying leak, it turned out to be a crack in my Cam-cover!

Unfortunately I have no idea what that bit is on yours!

There is an oil restrictor in the head which is held in with that bolt. The mounting would appear to have been damaged at some point & welded up, you should be able to remove the bolt, put sealant on the threads & refit it without disturbing the restrictor.

Great, thanks! Will stick a fibre washer on too, clean everything up and then forget about it hopefully.
