Anyone know anything about this car:

The stickers are not my cup of tea, but I've been looking for a car for a bit of track action and this might suit.

The belts dont look right in this photo but thats an easy fix.

Id wrap the belts round to shorten the length able to flex, but the rear seatbelt mountings are ideal.

I was thinking it would be better to attach them to the harness bar/cage thing.
But that is a little thing as long as the rest of the car is ok.

They're not proper big black brakes - way too small, and that cone filter arrangement wants sorting out, but other than that looks nice. I like the bucket seats - so long as they're not vinyl or 'Leatherette'.

Yer the brakes are standard 944. I think it might have more of a track car 'look' then actually being a track car.
The owner is also a bit unsure of the suspension set up on it!

I have to say I looked at it of course :p , but its the old catch 22 isnt it, you buy one done like this and you dont have to spend loads doing it but you wonder if its been overstretched/thrashed. I did think it looked a really fun project though I must say.

I certainly havn't viewed it , its in Northern Ireland and I think it only just came on sale. I know I've travelled to view some cars but I'd have to be really certain re the car to go that far TBH [:)]

Nooooooo!

Its a harness guide bar, designed to ensure the belts arent too low behind the driver/passenger. Belts that are too low tend to compress the spine in a frontal.

I`ve got one for a 968 lying around somewhere.

That's a bit odd Paul, I"˜ve had a few race/rally cars and all of them have had the belts attached to a bar/cage. Your right about the belts being too low but you attach them to a cage etc because if you have a big accident the floor of the car can distort.
See here:

Its my old mk1 Golf thought you might like it Paul!

Theres a lot of nonsense talked/repeated about harness location and cages in general. Much of what youll read on forums is such...

The 'floor' of a 944 is FAR less likely to move in the event of a substantial impact than the cross 'harness' bar in the first photograph.

Do it Tom !

I'm enjoying 'DHX' but it does like to munch through wallet contents at an alarming rate.

Let us know how you get on.

Well am sure the checker board decals are a major improvement for track use. [8|] I do like those front seats though , wonder if they do them in Linen ??

I love the Golf Tom [8D]

Any more piccies? What was the spec?

What else have you built?

What I meant was that harness GUIDE bars should not be used as a harness bar, they are not strong enough.

I also agree with 944 man in that harnesses and their use is not always properly understood. Having had a harness and roll hoops save my life once I personally would only use a roll cage bar as a harness bar if it was properly braced in the middle to resist forward movement thereby shortening the span as it is a huge load on a bar to restrain two people in a full frontal. Any bending forward of the bar together with the fact that the bar may possibly pull in the end weld points a little may all add movement and reduce the effectiveness of the harness. A serious side shunt will also move the harnesses side ways if a harness bar is not an integral part of the cross braced part of a cage.

With rear straps longer than about 500mm (I cant remember exactly) the harness straps should be crossed behind the seat and be secured via a hoop or studs (or other means) so they dont slide sideways.

Admittedly I am only a track dayer (occasionally of late) but cars still roll now and again so being a cautious old git and following my roll over accident in my Ginetta G27 I tend now to be risk averse and err on the side of caution.

Jon I believe the stickers add stone chip protection to the rear arches a bit like the little stone guards found as standard on most 944..............[:D]

The seats are ok but a set of Recaro pole positions look better. Paul I have lots of photos of the golf (one of those cars I should not have sold) have a look here:

http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y91/45rugdub/?start=40Start about page 3.

It was a rare 3dr GL shell stitched welded up with a mk2 Golf blue printed GTI engine on twin 45's.

I think it's more of a 'track look' car than an actual trackcar but it seems to be honest, could be worth a look.

I doubt those no name branded tyres (Hydraxer????) have ever seen track action, unless they are bacolite and last a looooong time [:D]

its a GOOD CAR! i know the guy who owns it and is a bit of a Perfectionist!!
Car was NEVER tracked!!. He just likes doing his cars up at NO cost restrictions.
Would make a good combo car TRACK?ROAD.
