Track Day Camera Mounts

Just back from my stint round Brands Hatch indy. A great day out but was disappointed I couldn't use the camera. Suction only camera mounts cannot be used and it is not just MSV or Brands Hatch apparently. This may be something others know about but there was nothing on the paperwork I received.

The mount can have suction cups but must also has some 'mechanical' means of mount. All to do with some suction cups coming unstuck in accidents and cameras flying around in cars. The instructor I had was bit miffed to as he reckons most of the instructors use suction only mounts. He did say who made the ruling but I forget I'm afraid, perhaps MSA??

If you are looking to use a camera, I'd suggest checking with the circuit, not necessarily the organiser, before turning up.

Rgds,
Kevin.

Sorry but the "ban" on suction mounts is well known among track day regulars - despite the fact there appears to be no mention of it anywhere on MSV's website. It varies a bit between TDOs, but its best to assume you cannot use them. Have a browse of the Track Days forum on Pistonheads.

Not sure the MSA really has jurisdiction here - more likely just down to the TDO's own insurance. But you certainly can't use suction mounts in a race car.

Not being a trackday regular, I was hoping to have picked up on that info before. Certainly the MSV site didn't have anything in the links they sent or in the docs they sent through. The instructors seemed to be talking as if it was quite recent. Just slightly frustrating really. At least I did get a few minutes worth at the end of the day when the wife and son turned up to watch.
