track day insurance

Afternoon.
I am thinking of doing my first trackday at bedford on good friday and am enquiring about insurance. I am insured with elephant and they do not cover trackdays. Are there any companies which you would recommend to use for a days cover.
Also is Bedford a good track for a beginner?

Ann Manning of Henly will provide track day cover (underwritten by Cornhill) for PCGB members - see ad in Porsche post for contact details.
Bedford is not my favourite; although it is wide open and has lots of run off (a good thing) it is featureless (a bad thing as it is easy to confuse bends); recommed a session with an instructor at £20 before going solo...

If you are thinking of doing a few track days it would probably be cheaper to cancel your policy and take out a policy that covers track use within the policy/premium (see seperate threads on this). I think the quotes for one off cover for a GBP30k car are usually around GBP200 a time but shop around and see what you can find.

Regards

I agree with Jeff that Bedfords not the most exciting - however its great as a beginners circuit - nice and wide, lots of run off, not too intimidating

i did my first couple of trackdays there and in retrospect am glad that i did as it allowed me to get a feel for the car. better to have understood the car a bit rather than finding out in the tyrewall at oulton.

go for it and have a good day out [:D]

I have heard that it is great for beginners. Really looking forward to it. Just out of interest, I need to get some new pads. what are recommended for track and road use?

Keep to OEM.

ooooh nooooo....dont say that Matt.......I ended up in the gravel at Donners......and tyrewalls are much less forgiving!.....think i'll be tiptoeing round especially if its a little damp!

Also I'm planning to do Bedford in the next couple of months......I've done it once before, one of the JP days.....had great fun in an Integra R and a single seater and went pretty quick (according to the instructor chappie).....once again enjoyed the scenery though it took me about 5 minutes to find my way out of the long grass and then I was the wrong way round....ooops....is it still long in the middle?

Bedford the best for beginners and I agree tuition is a good idea whether you are are beginner or not.

Don't know what model you have but Pagid Blue pads for track are great but you can murder road tyres with them - suggest you keep all oem and take it really easy first time out and don't frighten yourself.

Norwich Union through a broker will cover you for track days and no extra premium. You just phone broker to inform them when you are on track and they cover you but with £1000 excess. I pay £700 for 993tt but I have full no claims and 0 points. (anyone else in the club boast that??)

i've actually got some std pads here - brand new still in box for the RS. (bought them when I thought i would be doing some road miles in the car and the squeeling of the pagids would drive me mad, but never fitted) - let me know if you want them as it saves me putting them on e-bay - i'm a lot cheaper than your local OPC [;)]

Well, I could until I went past a scamera van yesterday morning .... now I'm waiting to find out [:(]

14 days.... tick, tick, tick...

Sorry, Phil, you ain't got nowt to boast about.
993TT,430bhp, 6 points, over 60, £399 annual with unlimited Porsche trackdays subject to only £550 excess. With our friends Mannings, inside back cover of PP.
So far as I can make out they are grabbing the lion's share of PCGB business away from Performance Marque. PM admitted to me that they were unable to beat the combination of low premium and free trackday cover currently offered by Allianz/Cornhill.
Go for it , boys.

Blimey sailor - but as I am 19 will that count against me? I'd better give them a call.....
